Franchise Questions
The initial franchise fee is $50,000, payable when the franchise agreement is signed. The Franchise Disclosure Document estimates a total initial investment of $262,000 to $414,000 for a location inside a medical building, and $396,500 to $827,000 for a retail location. Both estimates cover the franchise fee, build-out, equipment, inventory, opening advertising and three to four months of additional funds. The itemised estimate is carried in the Franchise Disclosure Document.
The ongoing royalty is 7% of gross revenues and the brand marketing fund contribution is 2% of gross revenues, both settled weekly. Technology and systems run $175 per week. Transfer, relocation and other contingent fees are set out in the franchise agreement and the Franchise Disclosure Document.
No prior experience in medical aesthetics is assumed to be required. What is expected is operating discipline: the ability to run a service business daily, lead clinical and hospitality staff, and hold standards without supervision. In some states a licensed medical professional may own and operate a location under an addendum to the franchise agreement.
No. The franchisee provides non-medical management and support services. Medical aesthetics and wellness services are delivered by appropriately licensed professionals through a professional corporation or licensed professional entity, which employs and controls the medical providers under a management agreement. In certain states a licensed professional may own and operate without a separate management agreement, under an addendum. Requirements vary by state and should always be confirmed with your own attorney.
Provider recruitment, credentialing and retention guidance is part of the support offered to franchise partners, drawing on the brand's experience staffing two company-owned Austin locations. Practical help with sourcing injectors, laser technicians and clinical staff is described in the program documentation. Ultimately the hiring, credentialing and employment relationship belongs to the franchise owner.
Initial training runs up to five days at the brand's training center in Austin, Texas, and covers the management and non-medical operation of the medspa: system standards, operating procedures, technology and support services. Up to three attendees are included without a training fee, and at least two people must complete the program before the medspa opens. After opening, additional courses run up to five days a year and an annual meeting up to three days.
The brand provides site selection assistance and its site selection guidelines, but it does not choose the site for you. You must receive written approval of the premises before making any binding lease or purchase commitment. A location must provide at least 1,500 square feet, including reception and examination space, and typically occupies 1,500 to 1,700 square feet with a minimum of three treatment rooms.
You receive a protected area — typically a geographic market of about 100,000 people with household incomes of $75,000 or more — within which the brand will not open, franchise or license another Body Tonic Rx medspa while you are in good standing. It is a protected area rather than an exclusive territory: the brand and its affiliates retain the rights described in the franchise agreement, and patients remain free to seek care wherever they choose.
The brand estimates approximately nine months from signing the franchise agreement to opening, and the agreement requires the medspa to open within twelve months of signing unless that deadline is extended. Actual timing depends on financing, permits, licensing, construction and hiring.
The franchisor does not offer financing for the expenditures in the estimated initial investment. Prospective partners should approach their own lender, attorney and accountant, and should not plan to fund a build with money they cannot afford to commit.
Yes. For a partner who already operates a Body Tonic Rx medspa, the initial franchise fee for each additional location is discounted by 25% of the then-current fee. The franchise agreement does not grant an option or a right of first refusal over additional markets.
Day-to-day leadership of the location: recruiting, training and retaining providers and hospitality staff; protecting clinical protocols, safety, privacy and record-keeping; managing capacity and the appointment calendar; executing local marketing within brand standards; and maintaining the experience a premium brand promises. Owners are expected to be present and accountable, not passive investors.
No litigation and no bankruptcy information is required to be disclosed in the current Franchise Disclosure Document.
There are no franchised locations in operation today, so there are no franchisee references to offer yet. Both current locations are company-owned and operated by the brand. Contact details for current franchise owners will be provided in the Franchise Disclosure Document once franchisees are operating.
